Hospital & Department

Reporting to the director of anaesthesia, you will join an anaesthesia and pain service covering theatres, ICU and maternity. This health service provides care to over 300,000 people including in a large regional referral hospital where this post is primarily based . However, you will be expected to provide service at a smaller specialist facility as well (and other smaller hubs as directed), all within a multidisciplinary team context. 

 

  • 8 theatres.
  • High dependency and ICU. 
  • 2000 deliveries per year. 
  • Great opportunities for teaching, service development, and research.


Job scope

Key aspects of the position include:

 

  • Deliver first-class anaesthesia and pain services and provide expert clinical advice to colleagues. 
  • Willingness to participate in a balanced on-call roster.
  • Demonstrating leadership in clinical governance and service improvement.
  • Supporting junior doctors in respect to informal and formal teaching and supervision.
  • Willingness to participate in clinical governance activities and quality improvement projects. Participation or encouragement of research projects.

Anaesthetists with the following attributes are encouraged to enquire:

 

  • FANZCA or soon to qualify or
  • UK-trained Consultants holding CCT, FRCA to qualify for ANZCA accelerated and/or ESP pathways.
  • Strong clinical and technical capability, with the knowledge and skill set required to deliver high-quality specialist anaesthetic care.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and provide leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills and is able to engage effectively with colleagues and other health professionals.
  • Genuine commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and best-practice clinical governance.
  • An active interest in education and research, including a strong personal commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing medical education.
