Darwin is a modern, cosmopolitan city. It is the Northern Territory's administrative, governmental, academic and cultural centre. From Darwin you can fly quickly and easily to South East Asia (e.g. Sing or Jakarta) for onward transfer. Or, you can fly to Bali within 3hrs for a long weekend!

 

The industrial agreement pertaining to senior medical practitioners working in Darwin is excellent. It has lucrative provisions and benefits for oncall, call-back, overtime, working on public holidays etc. 

 

 

The mental health service requires a consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry to work in a permanent, full-time capacity. You will provide clinical care within both inpatient and outpatient settings, participate in teaching medical students and post-graduate trainees. You must be comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment and be excited about working with Aboriginal and Torres Islander people. You will also have had demonstrable experience working in MDT settings and be a confident leader, ensuring you are a positive role model in the workplace. Other duties include involvement in clinical governance, quality improvement, risk minimisation etc. There will be research opportunities and you will be joining an existing team of collaborative and friendly senior clinicians.

 

 

Selection criteria

  • FRANZCP or specialist training completed in Ireland, UK, USA, Canada or South Africa.
  • Broad experience in child and adolescent psychiatry within MDT settings.
  • A compassionate and collaborative approach to your work with patients at the centre. 
  • Experience in transcultural settings.
