Canberra Health Services provides acute, sub-scute, primary and community based health care to the Australian Capital Territory.

 

 

The Obs & Gyn Department provides tertiary level obstetrics and gynaecological services to the ACT and surrounding regions. The hospital has more than 3700 births per year and is a level 6 referral centre for high risk pregnancies. It is the only tertiary care perinatal unit between Sydney and Melbourne and has a busy Fetal Medicine Unit. 

 

The department is accredited by Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics for the FRANZCOG Training Program and subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine.  The Hospital’s Centre for Newborn Care has over 650 admissions per year.The Fetal Medicine unit is made up of a multidisciplinary team who provide high quality care for high risk pregnancies, collaborating with the Neonatology team and allied health including Genetics.

 

The department needs a Maternal Fetal Medicine subspecialist or a DDU trained specialist who will work in the FMF unit with pro-rata on call duties and contribution to inpatient management when required. You will provide 1st class clinical care in managing high risk pregnancies, including diagnostics, amniocentesis, chorionic villous sampling.You will manage inpatients and undertake outpatient clinics, participating in ultrasound and you will lead from the front providing leadership in standards of practice, including CME, teaching, training and research.

Selection criteria

 

*FRANZCOG with MFM subspecialist qualifications or equivalent training completed in either UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, New Zealand. 

*Experience in and high levels of capability to work in a high-risk obstetric environment.

*Ability to manage inpatients under the high-risk obs team, providing ward support. 

*Ability to manage outpatient clinics , participate in ultrasound. 

*Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in internal education programs. 

*Experience in supervising junior medical staff.

*High levels of sensitivity, empathy and collaborative skills. 

*Willingness to participate in on-call rosters. 

*A commitment to clinical excellence and governance.
