The Queensland city of the Gold Coast is arguably the perfect fusion of beach and city. It is located just south of Brisbane, close to the NSW border.  It is an attractive city, dominated by waterways, beaches and its proximity to Brisbane. Brisbane International Airport - for example - is only a 50min drive from the Gold Coast and people commute easily between the 2 centres of population, enjoying the world class amenities, educational facilities and infrastructure in each.

 

The governing health service provides care to a catchment population of over 650,000. The mental health service is a comprehensive entity with services provided in adult inpatient, emergency psychiatry (in Ed),  acute care team, rehabilitation psychiatry, consultation liaison, community and continuing care services, child and youth (18-25yrs) inpatient and outpatient, infant mental health, perinatal mental health and an old age (65yrs+) mental health service. 

 

 

The Older Age Psychiatry service has a community framework which believes older people can and do recover. They  provide care with a recovery-oriented approach emphasising individual strengths, building resilience whilst creating and enhancing opportunities socially and through activities. The community service provides early intervention, assessments, short/long term case management whilst collaborating with stakeholders (primary care, hospitals, agencies etc.). The service also has a 16 bed structured inpatient unit (with lounge, dining area, music room, gardens) for those with acute disorders and co-existing age related problems.

*Establish and develop relationships with relevant stakeholders in the community. 

*Provide leadership to the clinical MDT.

*Provide clinical expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, investigation and management of seriously mentally ill older aged patients. 

*Participate in teaching and supervising undergrad students,  postgrad and doctors in training. 

*Ensure your own CME is up to date and be an enthusiastic advocate for the CME of your MDT colleagues.

Selection criteria includes but is not limited to:

 

*Recent experience in older age psychiatry & evidence of appropriate contemporary expertise. 

*Achievements as a clinical leader and innovator.

*Clinical leadership in a multidisciplinary setting. 

*Willingness to participate in teaching and education initiatives as well as supervising medical staff.

*Demonstrated ability to shape strategy and policy. 

*Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance and quality improvement. 

*Covid19 vaccinations as well as MMR, Varicella, Hep B (by time of arrival).

 

 

Qualifications

 

If trained outside of Australia, applicants must have equivalent specialist training completed in Ireland, UK (not CESR), New Zealand, Canada, South Africa or, if trained in Sri Lanka you must have completed 2yrs placement in Australia or New Zealand; and have completed at least 6months in child and adolescent psychiatry in training as well as have had at least 2.5yrs consultant level experience following your completion of specialist training at time of reading this advert.
