The Rehabilitation unit is made up of a secure rehab unit, 2 community residential facilities and a mobile rehab team. This is a great opportunity to contribute your skills and experience to help take this service forward. Broadly, your scope will be to:

 

  • Provide first class clinical and non-clinical services.
  • Teach the doctors and psychiatrists of the future.
  • Satisfy your research interests.

 

 

Townsville is popular location for overseas trained specialists. The lifestyle is easy, laid back and focused on good living. Townsville is a great place to raise kids. It is peaceful and has one of Queensland's finest private schools. It is so easy to get around as well. The commute is a breeze. In town you can choose to live by the beach with all the cafes, restaurants etc. or instead choose a family home by the river, near the hospital where many consultant families are based. Townsville has an excellent university - JCU - which has a first class reputation in science and medicine. 

 

Rehab service

  • The mobile rehab team (MIRT) is a recovery orientated MDT service whose goal is to improving the quality of life of patients with complex mental health needs requiring intervention in the community.
  • The secure unit (SMHRU) is in Townsville and is currently expanding to be a 25 bed unit. It provides secure residential services to a large region.
  • The community care unit (TCCU) has 24 beds for extended care and rehab. It has a brain injury unit (ABIU) with 6 beds. There is an additional rehab unit in a different location. It is residential with a community access and re-integration focus. There are 27 extended care and rehab beds.

 

 

Job scope

 

  • ensuring first class care and support is delivered to patients and their carers and families. 
  • lead and take part in service development initiatives.
  • lead on patient safety and clinical governance.
  • ensure medical workforce is managed re rosters, on-calls, leave etc.
  • lead from the front in teaching and education.
  • managing rehab unit KPIs.
  • undertake CME activities.

 

 

The new Queensland Health consultant wage agreement (MOCA 6) guarantees you:

 

  • base salary  depending on your experience as a consultant plus
  • private practice allowance 50%
  • car allowance $21k - $25k plus
  • CPD allowance $21k paid with your salary plus
  • on-call allowances, overtime allowances and penalty shifts plus
  • employer paid pension contributions. 
  • Long service leave etc.

 

 

Selection criteria includes:

 

  • Specialist qualifications in psychiatry - FRANZCP in Australia/NZ or CCT in UK and Ireland, Board certifications in USA and equivalent in Canada, South Africa etc. Applicants trained in Sri Lanka with 2yrs Aussie/NZ experience will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in rehabilitation psychiatry.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Desire to maintain the highest levels of clinical practice. 
  • Willingness to participate in research activities.
