This is a clinical director role which also requires the hands on clinical skills of a consultant psychiatrist. Your duties will cover providing first class leadership, clinical care, ensuring continual quality and clinical governance improvement whilst advocating professional development of your multidisciplinary team and colleagues.

As part of the health service's senior management cohort you will assist in devising, developing, planning and implementing initiatives, strategies and policies to improve the health outcomes of the population. You will promote mental health awareness in the community. Further, you will provide clinical leadership ensuring you can identify priorities which need to be strategically addressed.

Clinically, you will provide a wide range of treatments to patients following collaboration with carers, families and your MDT. You will provide a visiting consultation liaison service to a number of hospitals in the area.

The MHS delivers services to 2 major communities and other, smaller communities. There is an inpatient facility in one of the major communities and community services are delivered throughout. They provide care to adults, older age, child and adolescents in this context but also to shared care locations, treatment at home or in general community. Outreach is provided to several remote townships and indigenous Australian communities. An NGO manages a new Step Up Step Down facility.

This job would suit a consultant psychiatrist interested in working in a regional part of Australia, taking responsibility for a small MHT whilst enjoying being a senior clinician within a smaller health service, adding value and contributing to these local communities. Here, your qualifications and training are respected and your role as a senior medical practitioner is assured in respect to medical staff, medical administrators ad the community itself thereby ensuring great job scope.

Applicants will need to demonstrate the following:

  • FRANZCP or overseas equivalent gained in either UK, Ireland, NZ, Canada, USA or South Africa.
  • If you are an applicant outside of Australia you will need to have at least 3years consultant level work experience.
  • Evidence of practising psychiatry in a variety of settings.
  • First class communications skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships.
  • Capable of working autonomously for long periods of time.
  • An enthusiasm for living in Australia and its country lifestyle.
  • Be prepared to travel and stay overnight.
