Clinical Director of Medicine – Mackay Hospital and Health Service

 

Mackay Hospital and Health Service in Queensland is seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Director of Medicine to lead and support the delivery of high-quality healthcare services. This full-time, permanent role provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced medical leader to take on both clinical and leadership responsibilities within a dynamic and growing health service.

 

About the Role

As Clinical Director of Medicine you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, fostering collaboration, and ensuring excellence in clinical governance. Working alongside the Director of Nursing and other senior medical leaders, you will play a key role in driving the quality and safety of care delivered across the service. You will lead the Department of Medicine, mentoring both senior and junior medical staff while collaborating with teams across various specialties to ensure first class care is delivered.

In addition to your leadership duties, you'll maintain a clinical role, working as Consultant/Specialist. This job then offers a rewarding mix of leadership, clinical practice, as well as academic opportunities. With a strong emphasis on education and research, you'll work closely with James Cook University to enhance the department’s academic capabilities for individuals under your direction as well as the department as a whole.

 

What You’ll Do

  • You'll lead clinical governance and ensure compliance with the National Quality and Safety standards. You'll mentor and guide a team of skilled medical professionals in delivering high-quality patient care. Also:
  • Work collaboratively with other senior staff to develop innovative models of care.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on patient flow, resource management, and clinical outcomes.
  • You will participate in research and academic activities, contributing to the development of future healthcare leaders.
  • Additionally, you will ensure the department adheres to budgetary and resource allocation guidelines, maintaining the integrity of the health service.

The successful candidate will enjoy a competitive salary package up to $582k  depending on experience and qualifications. The total remuneration package includes your management allowance, motor vehicle and professional development allowances, superannuation, and additional benefits such as salary sacrificing options.

Selection criteria

 

  • FRACP or training completed in UK, Ireland, NZ, USA, South Africa or Canada.
  • Significant experience in Internal Medicine.
  • Experience in contributing to healthcare policy, clinical governance etc.
