Package is up to $600k plus oncall and applicable allowances.

 

Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service delivers healthcare across the Fraser Coast, Bundaberg and surrounding rural communities, supporting a catchment  population of more than 225,000 people. 

 

The purpose of this job is to lead general surgical services across Hervey Bay and Maryborough Hospitals on Queensland's Fraser Coast.


This is a substantive senior medical appointment combining full clinical directorship with ongoing surgical practice. You will lead strategic planning, service development, and the day-to-day running of the Department of Surgery — roster management, model of care design, waiting list reduction, quality and governance — while maintaining a clinical caseload including outpatient clinics, ward rounds, complex case management, and after-hours on-call.


You will work in partnership with the Executive contributing to a consultant-led seven-day surgical service. The role carries responsibility for the supervision and training of registrars and junior medical staff, and there are opportunities to engage with the University of Queensland and CQUniversity partnership supporting end-to-end medical education and training across the region.


Private practice
WBHHS may be able to assist the successful candidate in establishing private practice alongside their public appointment. Support may include access to sessional rooms at local private hospitals, credentialling and administrative assistance, and introductions to local GPs, physicians, and surgeons to help build referral pathways.


Essential criteria
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and specialist registration with AHPRA are required or overseas-trained specialists will be considered if you have made significant progression i.e. RACS SC pathway.
