Clinical Director of Anaesthesia

Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service delivers healthcare across the Fraser Coast, Bundaberg and surrounding rural communities, supporting a population of more than 225,000 people. An opportunity is available for a Clinical Director of Anaesthesia.

 


This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced anaesthetist with a passion for leadership, clinical governance and service development to lead the anaesthetics department across Hervey Bay and Maryborough Hospitals.

 


The anaesthetics service currently operates with strong specialist support and well-established surgical and perioperative services. You will provide strategic and clinical leadership while helping drive high-quality patient outcomes and the continued development of the service across the region.

 

 


Your Role 

  • Provide strategic and clinical leadership within the Department of Anaesthesia.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement, clinical governance and innovative models of care.
  • Work closely with the Director of Medical Services and Nurse Directors to optimise theatre utilisation and service efficiency.
  • Mentor and support medical staff including junior doctors and specialist colleagues.
  • Support teaching, supervision and ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities, quality improvement projects and research initiatives.
  • Oversee complaints management, medico-legal matters and departmental governance.
  • Contribute to workforce planning, resource management and service development.

 

 


Remuneration package highlights

  • Total remuneration package of up to approximately $570k per year depending on experience and classification. The package includes:
  • Motor Vehicle allowance approximately $23k-$28k depending on salary band – paid.
  • 3.6 weeks professional development leave.
  • Approximately $22k professional development allowance – paid.
  • Very generous salary sacrifice arrangements.
  • Employer paid tax free pension contributions – 12.75%.
  • Attractive regional and location incentives.
  • Opportunity to undertake private practice at St Stephens Private Hospital in Hervey Bay, allowing you to complement your public hospital role with private work.

Selection Criteria 

  • Hold FANZCA or have equivalent overseas qualifications suitable for a substantial comparable outcome or eligible for the ESP (UK/Irish CCT/CSCST)
  • Applicants already assessed by ANZCA will be highly regarded.
  • Applicants trained in Ireland or the UK will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in clinical governance, service improvement and multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Have first class communication skills at a clinical level with an ability to develop excellent working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Have a commitment to patient safety, research and clinical governance.
  • Enjoy leadership and your role within a multidisciplinary team.
