This is a really significant psychiatric leadership appointment in regional Australia. It sits at the crossroads of clinical expertise, genuine community impact, and health management.
The Central Australian Mental Health service is looking for a Clinical Director to shape psychiatry across this region of Central Australia. Here, you'll lead the clinical team, drive clinical governance, and work closely with the GM and Regional Executive as an expert stakeholder whilst delivering specialist clinical care to underprivilidged communities in the country, within a rural and regional context.
The clinical and cultural complexity in this region is unusual and presents many challenges as well as opportunities. Here, you have the opportunity to develop services which will really make a major difference to the population.
The Role
As Clinical Director your responsibilities will range from medical workforce strategy, junior doctor supervision and teaching to budget oversight, safety and quality frameworks, and on-call clinical participation. Terefore this is a hands-on and high profile leadership role — you'll need to be visible, available and clinically active.
What You'll Need
FRANZCP fellowship (or equivalent recognition by the Medical Board of Australia) is essential, along with substantial Specialist experience and a track record of leading medical teams through change. Critically, candidates must demonstrate deep, practical knowledge of the health challenges facing First Nations communities and the cultural competency to deliver safe, effective services in both urban and remote settings.
Experience in professional leadership, clinical governance, teaching, and multidisciplinary collaboration will be key selection drivers.
