An exceptional leadership opportunity is now available with this health service for a Clinical Director in Psychiatry. We are seeking a senior psychiatrist seeking to step into a pivotal executive role leading clinical excellence across a diverse and expanding mental health service. This position offers the chance to shape strategic direction, mentor and support medical teams, and drive innovation in service delivery. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe, contemporary, and consumer-focused mental health care for the region, while contributing to the ongoing growth and development of the service.
Remuneration package highlights

Job scope
You will provide strategic medical and clinical leadership across the mental health service.
This is a senior role, reporting to the director of medical services, which has overarching responsibility for the delivery, governance, and continuous improvement of specialist mental health services. You will ensure the effective implementation and sustainability of a consultant-led model of care operating seven days per week, promoting best-practice, contemporary service delivery.
In addition to executive leadership responsibilities, you will provide high-level clinical services within a defined component of the MHS, ensuring alignment with broader organisational objectives, quality standards, and performance expectations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Provide leadership in clinical governance activities, including the development and implementation of procedures, models of care, workforce planning, roster oversight, benchmarking, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical risk management.
- Deliver high-quality psychiatric services, including comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, outpatient care, clinical reviews and ward rounds, and participation in after-hours and weekend rosters as required.
- Manage complex clinical matters, liaise with relevant regulatory bodies ensuring full compliance with the mental health act.
- Promote multidisciplinary collaboration and integrated models of care, supporting recovery-oriented practice and continuity of care, working in partnership with primary care providers and external stakeholders.
- Provide clinical supervision, education, line management, and professional development for registrars, junior medical officers, and other clinical staff, ensuring alignment with RANZCP accreditation.
- Champion research, evidence-based practice, peer review activities, and continuous quality improvement processes.
- Contribute to policy development, represent the service on relevant committees, and support medical workforce projects.
- Demonstrate ethical leadership, professionalism, and positive role modelling as a clinician and medical leader.
Selection Criteria
- FRANZCP or SIMG RANZCP substantial comparable outcome or eligibility for; or ESP.
- Proven capacity to provide strategic and clinical leadership in a contemporary MHS.
- Recognised expertise as a Specialist in Psychiatry, with advanced clinical knowledge, sound professional judgement, and strong decision-making capability.
- A commitment to professional development.
- Experience in supervision, teaching, and support of interns, junior medical officers, and undergrads.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and across clinical areas.
- First class verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals; as well as other external stakeholders.
- A demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, clinical governance, and ethical medical practice.
