Consultant

Our client, Gladstone Hospital (70 beds), part of Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service, is seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to join a friendly, well-supported team. Based in Gladstone, you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues in Rockhampton—attending peer review, education sessions and Anaesthetic Department meetings—while occasionally providing clinical cover to Rockhampton and other district hospitals.

Scope of practice

  • Full spectrum anaesthesia: general, regional and obstetric (epidural/spinal).
  • Pre-anaesthetic assessment clinics; peri-operative care across endoscopy, general surgery, orthopaedics, O&G, dental and investigative services.
  • On-call coverage for anaesthesia/HDU with critical-care input in consultation with admitting teams.
  • Coordination of inter-facility transfers with Retrieval Services Queensland.
  • Quality & safety: QA initiatives, audit, and participation in risk management.
  • Education & research: teach/supervise junior and middle-grade doctors; support departmental research.

Why you’ll love it

  • Package to ~AUD $530k (DOE) plus on-call/call-back/OT allowances.
  • Guaranteed work–life balance with supportive rostering and team culture.
  • Permanent residency support available.

Inclusive package elements include:

  • Car allowance (paid with salary)
  • Annual professional development allowance (paid with salary)
  • Private patient practice allowance
  • Retention allowance
  • Annual leave loading
  • Employer-paid superannuation (tax-effective)
  • Salary sacrifice options
  • Medical indemnity cover
  • Relocation assistance
  • Leave
  • Professional Development Leave (approx. 3.6 weeks)
  • Long service leave entitlements
  • 13 public holidays
  • (Standard annual leave entitlements apply; details on request.)

Lifestyle in Gladstone

  • Relaxed, subtropical coastal living with year-round sunshine.
  • Housing choices from beachside to hinterland acreage.
  • Private schooling options in Gladstone and surrounds.
  • Excellent airport connectivity within regional Australia.

Selection Criteria

  • FANZCA (or equivalent). Applicants eligible for ANZCA Specialist Pathway/ESP bridging are encouraged—or ANZCA assessment outcome already received is highly regarded.
  • Broad, contemporary anaesthesia skill set; ideally with substantive ICU/critical-care exposure.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and audit.
  • Team-focused clinician with strong communication and leadership in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Experience teaching junior medical staff and contributing to education programs.
