Consultant Psychiatrist - Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

  • Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and management for children and adolescents. Deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across community, outpatient and inpatient settings.

Exciting Opportunity


This is an exciting opportunity to join a major mental health service in Sydney to to work within their psychiatry emergency care unit. With a new agreed specialist psychiatrist allowance having been agreed, a $45k managerial allowance and a new progressive industrial allowance due in 2026, it has never been a better time to work as a psychiatrist in Sydney.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to

 

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment for children and adolescents (0–18 years).
  • Develop management plans, including pharmacological and psychosocial interventions.
  • Conduct risk assessments relating to self-harm, suicide, safeguarding and behavioural disturbance.
  • Participate in Mental Health Act assessments as required.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary CAMHS teams including psychologists, social workers, nurses and allied health.
  • Liaise with paediatrics, emergency departments, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide clinical leadership within the team environment.
  • Supervise and support psychiatry trainees, JMOs and medical students.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, audit and service development initiatives.
  • Participate in on-call and after-hours rosters as required.

Essential Criteria

 

  • FRANZCP or assessed as substantially comparable by RANZCP or eligibility for such and/or ESP pathway for psychiatry. 
  • Quaifications in child and adolescent psychiatry.
  • Experience in effective clinical governance and the promotion of a first class environment in respect to improving quality, safety and clinical practice. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • First class communication, collaborative and liaison skills.
  • Experience in informal and formal teaching programs.
