From July 2027, total package up to $571k - excludes on - call and penalty shift allowance.

Between 1st July to 30th June 2027 the package will be up to $558,463k plus on - call and penalty shift allowances.

Mackay Base Hospital is a state-of-the-art regional hospital located in a sunny coastal setting, just a 1.5-hour flight from Brisbane. An opportunity is available for a Consultant General Surgeon. Here, you will join a department which currently has four General Surgery teams, one Urology team and one ENT team.  There are also outreach General Surgical services provided to regional hospital hubs supported by consultants and other senior medical practioners. 

Job scope includes but is not limited to

• Deliver first class general surgical care. 
• Provide supervision and education to the team.
• Provide inpatient and outpatient care.
• Participate in service development and clinical governance activities.
• Participate in 24 hr oncall and weekend oncall rosters. 
• Initiate and participate in educational initiatives in the department.
• Assist surgical trainees and other medical staff to the best of their abilities in respect to CPD and RACS.

Remuneration Package Highlights 

• Up to $571k + on - call/overtime a package which includes:
• Motor Vehicle allowance $23-$28k depending on salary band - paid.
• 3.6 weeks professional development leave. 
• $22k professional development allowance - paid.
• Very generous salary sacrifice arrangements
• Employer paid tax free pension contributions - 12.75%

Selection criteria 

• FRACS or equivalent. Applicants already assessed by RACS as substantially Comparable will be highly regarded.
• Willingness to participate in on - call roster.
• Ability to provide high-quality emergency and elective surgery service within the context of public health system.
• First class communication skills 
• Strong organisational and collaborative skills. 
• Willingness to participate in the oncall rosters.
• Experience and willingness to participate in clinical governess activities 
• Commitment to teaching boty informally and informally, undergrad and postgrad colleagues.
