Consultant in Emergency Medicine (FACEM)

Mount Gambier Hospital is the largest public health facility in regional South Australia and is an 80-bed facility offering 24-hour emergency care, 12 day surgery chairs, and 4 operating theatres. The Ed is 24/7 and has a brand new new ED Short Stay Unit. The unit has six extra beds and construction is also well under way on two new inpatient drug and alcohol withdrawal beds and 6 additional mental health beds for the hospital.

You will provide high-quality emergency care to a regional community where your expertise directly improves patient outcomes.

 

Job scope include, but are not limited to

 

  • Deliver safe, high-quality clinical care to ED patients and inpatients.
  • Provide clinical leadership, mentoring, and supervision to trainees and other junior staff.
  • Lead quality improvement, teaching, audit, and research activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external providers to optimise care, patient safety, and clinical governance systems.

 

Selection criteria

 

  • FACEM.
  • Advanced skills in resuscitation, airway management, circulatory support, and retrieval of critically ill patients, particularly in a regional context.
  • An interest in rural ED or experience in a regional hospital ED in Australia. 
  • A commitment to clinical leadership, mentoring junior staff and supporting multidisciplinary teams.
  • A strong understanding of public health systems and the unique challenges they present.
  • A proven track record of involvement in quality improvement and education initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective local and regional links. 
  • Demonstrated capability in research.
