Hospital highlights

Bunbury Hospital has just been awarded $280 million for a major upgrade. The project will mean:

  • Expanded emergency department turning it into a 1st class model of care.
  • Enhanced maternity, birthing, and neonatal services.
  • Increased theatre capacity.
  • New world-class clinical facilities and equipment.
  • Brand new emergency access to mental health facilities
  • Western Australia's first regional training, education and research centre.
  • Digital enhancement and transformation.

The current ED has approx. 40 beds - covering resus, acute, paeds, MH, fast track and short stay. The ED is currently split into 3 teams : fast track, main floor and short stay with each run by a consultant.  Bunbury delivers emergency medicine care to a catchment population of approx. 90,000 people.

 

 

Job highlights

 

As well as working the majority of your time in Bunbury's ED your responsibilities includes providing support via telehealth to the regional hospitals. You will also support medical and nursing staff and participate in clinical administration e.g. in medical advisory committees, disaster planning , clinical pathway design etc. You will also be initiating and participating in quality improvement initiatives and in general service development activities. Education and teaching is key and as a senior clinician you'll supervise and mentor junior medical staff. You'll take the lead in undergrad and post-grad training as well as being a passionate advocate for continuing medical education for your colleagues and yourself. The hospital also enjoys a close relationship with the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia. 

 

 

Selection criteria:

*FACEM or equivalent e.g FRCEM etc. 

*Evidence of commitment to professional development.

*First class communication skills.

*Commitment to clinical teaching.

*Demonstrable commitment to quality improvement and patient safety.

*Demonstrated ability to build stakeholder relationships for the betterment of all - with GPs, other hospital departments, NGOs, etc.
