Mackay is a city on Australia's east coast in Queensland. The climate is subtropical and the area is abundant with natural beauty - rainforests, beaches, small islands peppering the shoreline, koalas and roos. You can fly direct to Sydney or Brisbane from Mackay and its serviced well by the highway which runs up Queensland's eastern coastline. Mackay Base hospital is a modern facility, proud of its status as Australia's first fully digital facility. It has 192 beds and provides trauma services, most major medical and surgical subspeciality services.Presentations at ED are pretty mixed - including a significant caseload of trauma. Paediatric presentations account for about 25% of cases which is a fair representation of other similar sized Queensland cities.

 

 

 

 

Job scope

This is a great opportunity to get involved in the development of a new emergency medicine service. You will help the Director of Emergency Medicine in the provision of high-quality clinical services whilst ensuring the education of medical staff colleagues, students, allied health and interested community groups or nursing staff. Further you will be expected to take the lead and participate in patient safety, audit, research and service planning activities.  There are also support services such as Cardiac Cathlab and a 10 bed Short Stay Unit and there is a great, fully equipped medical library on site with a large collection.

Selection criteria

 

*FACEM or those who will soon complete their Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) Fellowship examination are also encouraged to apply.

*If not FACEM and you are trained outside of Australia, you will have completed your training in Ireland, UK, USA, Canada or South Africa or have been assessed as SC.

*A demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement. 

*Willingness to participate in internal teaching and supervision programs. 

*Sound knowledge of contemporary emergency medicine.

*High level communication skills.
