The post is with the Tasmanian Health Service across the North West region and provides an opportunity for you to play a critical role in developing health care at patient and system levels. The region offers unprecedented lifestyle opportunities to applicants who would enjoy the great outdoors: trekking, MTB, spending time outside with young family, swimming , surfing, cricket etc. 

 

The position involves management of patients in General Gastroenterology, IBD, chronic liver disease, and both diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy. Experience in capsule endoscopy would be highly regarded.

 

 

 

 

Service highlights

 

 

The medical services across the North West region of Tasmania are based primarily at the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie and at the Mersey Community Hospital in Latrobe, close to Devonport.  

Gastroenterologists provide gastroenterology and Hepatology services across both sites with the base being in Latrobe. Here, it is predominately outpatient and day surgery cases. Both hospitals have very busy emergency and general medical departments. Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics are primarily located at Burnie Hospital with outpatient services at both sites. Anaesthetic services are provided at both sites however the team is based at Burnie for on call purposes. A busy general surgical service is based at the Burnie site with the Latrobe site providing predominately day surgery cases.  A rehabilitation service is located in a purpose built ward at the Latrobe unit. There are extensive outpatient services for a range of subspecialty services. There is also an eight bed Intensive Care unit located in Burnie. Onsite support services in pathology, imaging and pharmacy are extensive.

 

 

 

 

Selection criteria

 

  • FRACP - must have.
  • Experience in General Gastroenterology, IBD, chronic liver disease, and both diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy. Experience in capsule endoscopy would be highly regarded.
  • First class communication skills.
