Role information
This role is suitable for someone looking for a Full Time role mixing Consultation Liaison and General Adult clinic work or a Part Time role in Consultation Liaison psychiatry.
This regional mental health service is recruiting Consultant Psychiatrists in this context to join its established adult mental health service in Albany, Western Australia.
This is a sensational opportunity to work within a supportive, multidisciplinary regional service delivering care across both community and inpatient settings. The adult psychiatry component includes a 16-bed authorised inpatient unit, with four PICU beds, co-located with the Community service hub.
The Adult Community Mental Health Service includes the Acute Assessment & Treatment Team and the longer-term Continuing Treatment Team. Each team is supported by a psychiatrist, at least one registrar, a resident medical officer, experienced nurses, Aboriginal mental health workers, lived experience workers and allied health professionals.
You will deliver comprehensive clinical assessments and provide psychiatric care and treatment for adults in either the community or inpatient setting. Caseloads and on-call requirements are extremely manageable, offering an excellent balance between clinical responsibility and lifestyle.
The Consultation Liaison context covers referrals from the general medical, surgical and maternity wards, working closely with the palliative care team, including in the hospice.
The service has a strong commitment to education, training and research, with active links to the local Rural Clinical School and local universities. Consultants with subspecialty qualifications or specific clinical interests are welcome to incorporate these into the service.

This MHS provides specialist mental health support across both community and inpatient settings, delivering pharmacological, behavioural and therapeutic interventions through a multidisciplinary model of care.
The adult mental health service includes:

Consultation Liaison Psychiatry across medical, surgical and maternity wards

Close working relationships with palliative care, including hospice services

Collaboration with Community Older Adult, Child and Adolescent, and Inpatient Consultation Liaison teams

Strong links with the Rural Clinical School and local universities

A psychiatry team of six Consultant Psychiatrists, eight Registrars, two RMOs and two interns
Key responsibilities

Deliver comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnoses and psychiatric treatment
-
Provide best-practice clinical interventions for adults requiring specialist mental health care

Liaise regularly with GPs and other healthcare professionals
-
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across inpatient and community settings
-
Supervise and mentor medical students, junior doctors and training registrars
-
Participate in continuing professional development, education, training and research
-
Contribute to the on-call roster for the mental health team

Participate in the ECT roster
Selection criteria
-
Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia in the specialty of Psychiatry
-
Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, or eligibility for via RANZCP pathways or ESP.

Extensive clinical experience in adult mental health

Strong commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork and collaborative practice

Interest in regional mental health service delivery

Commitment to ongoing professional development, supervision, education and training
