Consultant in General Medicine

 

  • Work with the Director of Medicine to organise, manage and provide first class specialist general medicine services.
  • Contribute to the provision of professional leadership to medical staff and patient care.
  • Package up to $543k plus allowances (oncall etc.).

 

The Department of Medicine at Rockhampton hospital provides Internal medicine services for this hospital and surrounding health services including Gladstone, Emerald and Biloela. The Department provides exposure to a broad range of medical conditions both common and 
uncommon.

 

The Department has 32 medical beds, 8 “48 hour” beds, 5 coronary care beds, 9 palliative care beds (including for chemo) and outpatient clinics each week.

 

Additionally, beds are located at and services provided to Huxham Unit (Interim Care) and the Transition Care Program at the North Rockhampton Campus. Development and implementation of Outreach services to other hospitals in CQ Health is planned. 

 

Sub-speciality areas are currently Cardio, Renal, Oncology, Haemo, Palliative,  Geri and Rehab Services. Specialist ambulatory services are available for Rheumatology and Dermatology.

Applicants must have 

  • FRACP or have been assessed as SC by RACP or are eligible for an SC outcome (contact me for more info if you are an overseas trained physician). 
  • A high level of clinical knowledge, proficiency and skills in General Medicine. 
  • Well-developed ability to direct the assessment, admission, ongoing care, transfer and 
    discharge of patients.
  • A good understanding and commitment to the principles of continuous quality improvement and review.
  • First class communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Experience in MDT contribution and leadership. 
  • Willingness to go on the oncall roster. 
  • Be prepared to travel within the health service region, to support outreach etc.
