The Department of Medicine at Gladstone hospital provides Internal medicine services for this hospital and surrounding health services including Emerald and Biloela. The Department provides exposure to a broad range of medical conditions both common and uncommon. The department is budgeted for 3 Specialists, 6 Principal House Officers, 1 RMO and 1 Intern.
Gladstone has 70 inpatient beds, with plans to expand. The hospital will develop level 4 clinical services and currently employs over 280 people delivering care across acute, planned, community and primary care. There is a 35-bedded general medical and surgical ward, a four bedded HDU, Maternity, Children’s ward and Nursery.
General Medicine here is now accredited by RACP for accredited Basic Physician Training. They also have recently introduced structured Work Based Assessment (WBA) program to facilitate General Registration for International Medical Graduates (IMG). We are aspiring to provide training courses to support ACRRM.
The hospital provides a comprehensive range of general and specialist inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency care, general medicine and surgery, basic orthopaedics, clinical investigations, obstetrics and maternity services, gynaecology, high dependency and coronary care, palliative care, medical imaging, pathology, and paediatric services.
A private hospital is nearby and co-operates via a medical services agreement.

Applicants must have
- FRACP.
- A high level of clinical knowledge, proficiency and skills in General Medicine.
- Well-developed ability to direct the assessment, admission, ongoing care, transfer and
discharge of patients.
- A good understanding and commitment to the principles of continuous quality improvement and review.
- First class communication skills - both written and verbal.
- Experience in MDT contribution and leadership.
- Willingness to go on the oncall roster.
- Be prepared to travel within the health service region, to support outreach etc.
