Job purpose

You will provide expert psychiatric care assessment and management of patients with intellectual disabilities or those on the autism spectrum.
This position will function predominantly as a Consultation Liaison role supporting both community and inpatient teams, with the chance to include a small amounts of direct patient care as part of an Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) team.

 

Within a regional Queensland context, you will provide this professional leadership in within an established multidisciplinary environment.

 

The service provides care in a beautiful region of Queensland and has developed sophisticated models of care which are consistent with both national Australian standards and which are also responsive to the needs of this community. Emphasis is put on collaborative, multidisciplinary care and a culture of best practice which is inclusive of families and carers , with a strong focus on relapse prevention. The mental health service also provides inpatient services which are supported by a 20 bed community care unit, a 10 bed step up step down sub-acute unit.  Additional community mhs are provided throughout the region.

  • Base salary $196k - $288k.
  • Plus 50% allowance $98k - $144k
  • Professional development allowance $21k.
  • car allowance $21k - $25k.
  • Employer paid tax free pension 12.75% - the highest in all the states.

 

Selection criteria includes but is not limited to

 

  • FRANZCP or equivalent with experience in or further qualifications in learning disability.
  • Applicants trained in the UK will be eligible for either the RANZCP accelerated pathway or ESP.
  • You will possess proven ability to competently function as an expert clinician in Psychiatry with demonstrated excellence in clinical practice.
  • You must be able demonstrate clinical knowledge and skills in providing expert psychiatric assessment and management for patients with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
  • Applicants will have a strong interdisciplinary focus across all areas of practice, including expertise in managing chronic and complex health issues in people with IDD.
  • Able to demonstrate sound clinical judgement and decision-making skills with proven ability to manage complex psychiatric presentations.
  • A strong commitment to continuing professional education and development, including active maintenance of personal knowledge and skills within the specialty.
  • You will demonstrate willingness and ability to teach and mentor others, including interns, junior medical officers and undergraduate medical students.
  • You must have proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team approach to care.
  • You will possess high level verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to work and liaise effectively with junior and senior medical staff, and other health professionals.
  • You will have sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills and ethical behaviour consistent with the requirements of a medical practitioner.
  • You must demonstrate commitment to the principles of quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance within healthcare delivery.
  • You will have proven ability to practice medicine effectively in a cross-cultural environment with sensitivity to diverse patient populations.
