  • Older Persons Mental Health Unit at Major Hospital and Community settings.

This is a fantastic chance to secure a 1.0 FTE post as a consultant psychiatrist at a major Sydney mental health service. Sydney has a rich choice of independent schooling, with a large number of faith based or secular institutions located throughout the suburbs. Long term, you'll  have the chance to access Sydney's lucrative private practice settings.

 

 

The Western Suburbs of Sydney are the most culturally diverse in Australia. Amenities are first class - waterways, parklands, national parks, the olympic facilities, major shopping centres, professional football stadiums, cricket ovals, league and union pitches, universities, private schools and major hospitals. As the city has grown wealth has shifted from the eastern to the western suburbs and the major corporations and employers have followed this shift by relocating corporate HQs out to the western suburbs. 

 

 

This is a permanent position and it provides timely and need-adapted care to older people presenting within an acute mental health inpatient setting and community mental health settings. Additionally, it includes a medical leadership role that supports medical staff and the development of older persons mental health services in line with the strategic direction and vision of the Mental Health Service.  Successful applicants will contribute to team expertise across a range of therapeutic modalities and participate in key clinical decisions.

This public health service is focused on contemporary models of care, innovation and  excellence in health service delivery. 

 

 

Selection criteria includes

 

  • FRANZCP or training completed in either NZ, UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or South Africa. 
  • If SIMG, you must have experience in C&A psychiatry during your training. 
  • Expertise in providing high quality older age psychiatry services in inpatient and community settings. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to person-centered, recovery oriented, family inclusive, trauma informed care. 
  • Can lead, inspire and work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary and allied health teams. 
  • An ability to support and work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
  • A sound knowledge of psychiatry encompassing biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual domains.
  • Have first class verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can demonstrate experience in quality improvement and clinical governance activities. 
  • Have demonstrated skills and commitment to teaching and supervision of colleagues and non-medical colleagues. 
  • Driving licence.
