This Queensland Health service provides patient centred care to approx. 300k people. It is head quartered in Toowoomba, only 1.5hrs drive to Brisbane's CBD and the Int Airpt which has direct flights to Singapore and Dubai. The service has 30 facilities, including a large regional
referral hospital, an extended inpatient mental health service, 3 medium sized regional hub hospitals, 11 rural hospitals, 4 multipurpose health services, a primary health care clinic, a community care unit, 2 general practices and 6 residential aged care facilities.
Toowoomba is a charming city in which to live and bring up a family. It is significantly higher above sea level than the area to the east which include Brisbane and the wide plains to the West, resulting in a slightly cooler sub-tropical climate.
Housing is far more affordable here than in Brisbane and the other major cities. Because of the climate, everyone has amazing gardens and Toowoomba is famous for its horticulture. You can choose a larger house, farmstead outside of town with acreage as well for hobby farming or keeping horses.
Toowoomba has excellent private schools - single sex and coed. The city is very popular for overseas trained senior medical practitioners as it presents the best of both Australian worlds - a more laid back and affordable lifestyle than a major metro but you're still close to Brisbane and the International Airpt.

In this mental health service, you’ll work closely with older people and their families, delivering holistic psychiatric care that fosters recovery, dignity, and wellbeing. Your responsibilities will span direct patient care, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and shaping treatment plans tailored to individual needs.
Beyond clinical work, you’ll play a key part in service development, mentoring junior doctors and trainees, and developing and implementing high
quality major teaching and educational initiatives both within the older age mental health services and at undergraduate and postgraduate level for a broad range of mental health disciplines.

Job scope
- Leading the MDT, a talented and committed group.
- Liaising with colleagues in other specialties and locations.
- Mentoring, supervising and teaching junior medical staff.

- Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships to provide an integrated service.
- Initiate and participate in clinical governance activities.
Selection criteria
- FRANZCP or
- if you are an overseas trained psychiatrist you must be able to satisfy accelerated RANZCP pathway or ESP requirements.
- Further qualifications or specialist training in old age psychiatry.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise and appropriate professional knowledge, skills and ability to deliver first class care in psychiatry of old age.
- First class communication skills.
- A commitment to ongoing education and research , including demonstrated personal commitment to CPD.
