Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Consultant in Public Health Medicine to join their team in the beautiful Kimberley region in Western Australia. The successful candidate will support the Public Health Manager, lead the disease control team, and develop strategies to protect and improve the health outcomes for the Kimberley population. This role requires a medical professional who can provide expert public health and clinical medical guidance in managing both communicable and non-communicable diseases, along with emerging public health challenges.
Opportunity Highlights
This position offers the successful candidate an exceptional opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural environment with a strong emphasis on Indigenous health and remote service delivery. The appointee will encounter complex clinical presentations, including patients with multiple comorbidities such as rheumatic heart disease. Working alongside a highly skilled team, the successful candidate will manage infectious disease notifications rarely encountered in metropolitan settings, including leprosy, melioidosis, and flaviviruses. The region presents significant disease burden challenges due to inequities in social determinants of health.
The role involves regular coordination of outbreak investigations and interventions, requiring close collaboration with Aboriginal health staff and community-controlled health organisations to develop programs that reflect local community priorities.
While the position is based in Broome, the successful candidate may be required to provide outreach services across various hospitals and clinics throughout the Kimberley region.
