The Child and Youth Mental Health Service is a specialised mental health service supporting children and young people up to 25 years of age. The mhs provides care in both community and hospital settings, focused on improving outcomes for young individuals facing complex mental health challenges.
The parent health service provides contemporary public health services to over 740,000 residents in one of Australia’s most coveted lifestyle destinations. With world-class beaches, universities, and a family-friendly environment, this is a rapidly growing region in Queensland’s southeast corner.
Child and Youth Service (0-18yrs, 18-25yrs)
Acute psychiatry inpatient care for child and youth.
Acute/Crisis care.
Community care services include Adolescent Day Program, Eating Disorders, Early Psychosis, CYMHS Continuing Care, Young Adult CC.
Primary care services for 0-12years and for 12-25years.
The service is seeking an experienced and dedicated psychiatrist to join them both as a Consultant C&A Psychiatrist and as Conjoint Professor/Associate Professor of Child Psychiatry.
Consultant Psychiatrist responsibilities include:
- Clinical.
- Operational.
- QA and clinical governance.
- Education and training.
- Research - supporting or participating.
- CPD
In addition to the above the Conjoint academic responsibilities will include:
- Provide overarching academic and clinical leadership for CAMHS across the service and the broader health community.
- Work as a member of the senior medical leadership team, aligning clinical and operational activities with academia and the CAMHS and broader mhs's strategic goals.
- Help to establish and maintain benchmarks for patient safety, clinical quality, and health outcomes within integrated practice settings.
- Lead research initiatives and cultivate an environment of excellence in teaching and professional development.
- Oversee the quality of mental health education, ensuring all clinical service-line activities remain fully compliant with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Contribute to the evolution of regional health policy, leveraging your position as an academic authority.
- Build and maintain high-level relationships between the University, health service, and external healthcare stakeholders.
This exciting position will be formally recognised as a "Clinical Research and Education" job which means it is an important leadership job. The mental health service expects the successful applicant to have sufficient clinical time to maintain their clinical interests, but a significant amount of allocated time will be devoted to educational and research activity that is focused on improving the quality of care delivered by the CAMHS - a notional week of 10 sessions allocated evenly between research, education, and clinical time.
Selection criteria includes but is not limited to
- Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), or equivalent gained in UK to satisfy RANZGP accelerated pathway or ESP.
- Deep experience in child and adolescent psychiatry
- Strong clinical and teaching experience.
- A collaborative approach to your work.
- Willingness to participate in the on-call and after-hours roster.
Although not essential, applicants with a PhD will be highly regarded.
