The Townsville mental health service is the state of Queensland's most comprehensive outside of the city of Brisbane.  The health service provides care to a catchment population of over 250k people across 19 hospitals and health centres providing services - from remote primary care to highly specialised care at a University Hospital -  the largest tertiary hospital in Northern Australia, providing specialist referral services for over 700,000 people.

Selection criteria includes but is not limited to:

 

  • FRANZCP or eligibility for the accelerated RANZCP pathway for ESP Specialist Pathway or RANZCP specialist assessment with substantial comparability assessment concluded—contact us for guidance.
  • Culturally competent care and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Track record of leadership, innovation, clinical governance, and teaching.
  • Knowledge of contemporary psychiatric practices and issues with rural and remote contexts, ideally within general adult psychiatry.
  • Evidence of appropriate expertise in the skills of a consultant psychiatrist with ability to travel to practice in rural areas.
  • Achievements as a clinical leader and innovator.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and across service boundaries.
  • Willingness to participate in teaching and education initiatives as well as supervising medical staff.

Applicants with previous experience working with Indigenous peoples will be highly regarded.
