Package highlights include:


  • Up to $267k base salary.
  • Up to $133k private practice allowance (guaranteed).
  • Clinical Director allowance $23k.
  • Up to $25k p.a. car allowance 
  • Employer paid pension up to $40k.
  • Professional development allowance $21.5k.
  • On-call allowances, overtime allowances and penalty shifts calculated on top of above.

The Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (AAMHIU) is a public facility located at the Townsville University Hospital for people experiencing mental illness who cannot be adequately supported in the community. The AAMHIU has a low-dependency unit with gender-specific areas and a high-dependency unit.

The highly specialised team helps with all aspects of a consumer’s treatment and recovery including psychiatrists, a social worker, an occupational therapist, mental health nurses, an Indigenous mental health worker and access to a range of other support services.


Other responsibilities include but are not limited to


  • Provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services.
  • Ensure the delivery of first class care which meets the highest professional and ethical standards.
  • Lead and participate in service development projects.
  • Collaborate with colleagues.
  • Participate in teaching and internal education programs.
  • Mange clinical documentation well. 





Selection criteria includes but is not limited to:



  • Specialist qualifications in psychiatry - FRANZCP in Australia/NZ or CCT in UK and Ireland, Board certifications in USA and equivalent in Canada, South Africa etc. 
  • Substantial clinical practice in psychiatry with evident expertise in adult psychiatry and experience in acute care and ED.
  • A deep knowledge of current psychiatric practice and issues. 
  • First class and high level communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Desire to maintain the highest levels of clinical practice. 
  • Willingness to participate in research activities.
