If you’re feeling your career has gone a bit stale and you need more adventure in your life without compromising income then this job in the Northern Territory might hit the spot.

You’ll be based in the iconic regional centre Alice Springs. Alice is a remote town of approximately 25,000 people, right in the heart of Australia. Alice Springs has a busy domestic airport with daily regular flights operated by Qantas, Virgin Australia and Rex Airlines. Alice is also the major squadron base for the ROyal Flying Doctors Service. A must-see destination for millions of tourists, Alice also offers unique and challenging professional opportunities for consultant psychiatrists. Ongoing funding into Aboriginal health, remote health infrastructure, acute care and community services means there are growing opportunities for senior medical practitioners.

This will suit someone keen for adventure, who enjoys the great outdoors with a passion for social justice and an interest in Aboriginal medicine and culture. There are incredible gorges, trails and canyons to explore - by foot, MTB, 4x4 or by air. Alice is a small city with excellent amenities including cinemas, cafes, olympic size swimming pools etc.

The mental health service delivers care via integrated multidisciplinary mental health teams. This includes an outpatient clinic, a 12 bed acute unit, a community mental health team (including case management, & crisis assessment and triage) the child and youth team, a remote team (specialised mental health), a forensic unit and a sub-acute unit.

Your job scope will include participating in outreach clinics and undertaking consultation liaison with colleagues in the main hospital. You will lead from the front in respect to being a role model for all and for developing and maintaining a positive workplace culture. You will also take part in postgraduate psychiatry training - as a member of the training committee and as a teacher and supervisor.
