This is an exceptional opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Rehabilitation Mental Health Service within one of Australia’s largest regional tertiary referral centres. Applicants with a working knowledge and familiarity with the principles of Forensic Psychiatry will be highly regarded.
This is a great opportunity to contribute your skills and experience to help take this service forward. Broadly, your scope will be to:
- Provide first class clinical care to manage complex rehabilitation patients in a supportive and well resourced university health service. Including those who require secure environments.
- Lead and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team setting.
- Lead, supervise and mentor junior medical staff.
- Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement projects and research (if interested).
- Work as an important and highly valued medical leader in this health service, including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
This city is popular location for overseas trained specialists. The lifestyle is easy, laid back and focused on good living. The city is a great place to raise kids. Its peaceful and has one of Queenslad's finest private schools. It is so easy to get around as well. The commute is a breeze. In town you can choose to live by the beach with all the cafes, restaurants etc. or instead choose a family home by the river, near the hospital where many consultant families are based. The city has an excellent university with a first class reputation in science and medicine.
Service
- The mobile rehab team (MIRT) is a recovery orientated MDT service whose goal is to improving the quality of life of patients with complex mental health needs requiring intervention in the community.
- The secure unit (SMHRU) has recently expanded to a 25 bed unit. It provides secure residential services to a large region.
- The community care unit (TCCU) has 24 beds for extended care and rehab. It has a brain injury unit (ABIU) with 6 beds. There is an additional rehab unit in a different location. It is residential with a community access and re-integration focus. There are 27 extended care and rehab beds.
Job scope
- ensuring first class care and support is delivered to patients and their carers and families.
- lead and take part in service development initiatives.
- lead on patient safety and clinical governance.
- ensure medical workforce is managed re rosters, on-calls, leave etc.
- lead from the front in teaching and education.
- managing rehab unit KPIs.
- undertake CME activities.
The new Queensland Health Medical Officers agreement (MOCA 7) guarantees you:
- base salary depending on your experience as a consultant plus
- private practice allowance 50%
- car allowance $22k - $28k plus
- CPD allowance $22k paid with your salary plus
- on-call allowances, overtime allowances and penalty shifts plus
- employer paid pension contributions.
- Long service leave etc.
Selection criteria includes:
- FRANZCP or equivalent, assessed as substantially comparable by RANZCP or registration via ESP. To qualify for the accelerated RANZCP or ESP pathway you will need UK CCT - contact me for more information.
- Substantial clinical experience in psychiatric practice, ideally with exposure to rehabilitation, forensic, or dual-disability psychiatry.
- Knowledge of and commitment to quality improvement initiatives.
- Expertise in recovery-oriented practice, complex case management, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Desire to maintain the highest levels of clinical practice.
- Willingness to participate in research activities.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural contexts, including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
