The position is primarily based at the Mental Health Centre, at the Hospital, and supports a Triage and Assessment Centre, an innovative, interdisciplinary emergency diversion and community walk-in facility.The Mental Health Service is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join their dynamic team and make a valuable contribution in emergency and acute mental health care. This exciting job will enable a successful candidate to provide timely, person-centered care to individuals experiencing mental health crises across both inpatient and community settings.

 

You will deliver specialised psychiatric assessment and intervention in high-acuity environments, focusing on crisis response, urgent care, and evidence-based brief interventions. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the innovative Safe Assessment Unit (SAU) within the larger hospital ED, bringing psychiatric expertise directly to the frontline of emergency care.

 

Working collaboratively within a really talented and motivated multidisciplinary team, you will contribute your specialist knowledge and skills awhile having the opportunity to develop their leadership capabilities in a supportive environment. Beyond clinical excellence, you'll be invited to champion your own interests - such as a quality and safety portfolio or a research project or a pursuit that aligns with your professional interests and the service's goals.

Selection criteria includes

 

  • FRANZCP or UK trained to satisfy RANZCP accelerated pathway and ESP pathway or psychiatrists already assessed on SIMG specialist assessement as substantially comparable. 
  • A commitment to their professional development and reflective practice. 
  • Expertise in providing high quality mental health services in inpatient and community settings. 
  • Committed to person-centred, recovery oriented, carer and family inclusive, trauma informed care. 
  • Can lead, inspire and work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary and allied health teams. 
  • Have first class verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can demonstrate experience in quality improvement and clinical governance activities. 
  • Have demonstrated skills and commitment to teaching and supervision of colleagues and non-medical colleagues. 
  • Driving licence.
