Job scope
This comprehensive mental health service in Cairns, Queensland is seeking a Deputy Clinical Director to help the Clinical Director in providing management and professional leadership of the clinical team a well as providing first class psychiatric care. Further, you will provide training and educational support to junior medical colleagues and other members of the team.
Current service settings include:
- A 10-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
- A 12-bed Adult Step Up Step Down Unit (sub-acute)
- Older Persons Psychiatry, and Consultation Liaison Services
- A 38-bed Acute Adult Mental Health Unit
- A 20-bed Community Care Unit
- Acute Care Teams, including teleservice and an emergency team.
- Adult and Child & Youth Mental Health Community Care Teams
- Specialised therapeutic Services,
- Mobile Intensive Rehabilitation
- Forensic Mental Health Services
- Perinatal service
- Rural & Remote services.
The job scope includes but is not limited to
- Supporting the Clinical Director.
- Provide clinical leadership , advice and supervision to medical and other clinical staff.
- Provide first class cliical care in within your own sub-specialty.
- Provide liaison advice to colleagues for complex and challenging cases.
- Help to ensure that clinical education and training needs of colleagues are met whilst promoting professional development for all.
- Help to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships - internally and externally.
- Upholding service values and acting professionally at all times.
- Ensure the highest quality of service.
- Provide clinical governance.
- Lead best-practice adult mental health psychiatric services, both inpatient and community-based.
- Provide clinical leadership within mdts and oversee collaborative care planning.
- Participate in strategic and operational planning, including quality improvement initiatives.
- Deliver education and training to junior staff, medical students, and mental health clinicians.
- Engage with patients, carers, non-mental health clinicians, and service providers to promote psychiatry and maintain open communication about patient care.
- Maintain professional development.
Selection criteria includes but is not limited to
- FRANZCP or eligibility for RANZCP substantial comparability or ESP.
- Applicants already assessed by RANZCP or ESP will be highly regarded.
- Deep experience in clinical psychiatry with a demonstrated record of achievement in the development and implementation of innovative care programs.
- Good experience in medical management and leadership, including evidence of the development and implementation of strategic plans, clinical governance projects, continuous improvement, and accreditation processes.
- First class communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and training of medical practitioners and other health professionals, and in providing community education
- Strong clinical and professional skills, including communication, time management, and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to practice psychiatry in a cross-cultural environment, ensuring a culturally sensitive clinical approach with Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Leadership skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Class C motor vehicle license.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call roster.
