This is an exciting opportunity to join a major mental health service in Sydney to drive clinical excellence, strategy and relevant operations in acute adult mental health. Reporting to the Executive Director Medical Services for Mental Health, this post provides excellent job scope at a senior level. Further, with a new agreed specialist psychiatrist allowance having been agreed, a $45k managerial allowance and a new progressive industrial allowance due in 2026, it has never been a better time to work as a senior executive in psychiatry in Sydney.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
- As the director of acute adult psychiatry you are responsible for ensuring that clinical services provided by the acute mental health service are delivered to the highest professional and ethical standards.
- Provide effective clinical leadership and safe clinical practice.
- Lead and participate in service development activities.
- Work in collaboration with the Executive Director Medical Services Mental Health, senior psychiatrists and mental health service administration to manage the budget for your area.
- Lead education, research and training activities.
- Lead multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to clinical governance.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and medical students.

Essential Criteria
- FRANZCP or assessed as substantially comparable by RANZCP or eligibility for such and/or ESP pathway for psychiatry.
- Experience and ability to lead an Adult Acute service of a major metropolitan mental health service.
- Experience in effective clinical governance and the promotion of a first class environment in respect to improving quality, safety and clinical practice.
- Commitment to your and your colleagues professional development.
- Demonstrated executive-level experience in mental health service planning, system reform, policy leadership and financial governance within complex public sector healthcare contexts.
- Proven executive leadership skills, including effective negotiation, staff development and the ability to mobilise and motivate multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Proven experience in medical leadership and administration, with in-depth knowledge of professional practice issues, clinical governance frameworks and medical workforce training.
