Package - up to $477k + oncall depending on 1-9 years experience at consultant level.

 

 

 

As Director of Internal Medicine, you'll be responsible for leading one of the largest admitting teams at this regional hospital incorporating General Medicine and Geriatrics. You'll also lead strategies to support increasing access to specialist care closer to home for specific patients through the development of sub-specialty models alongside a service planning team. Recognising the growing and ageing population of the region and the increasing prevalence of chronic conditions and frailty, this Hospital is looking for leadership to support contemporary, innovative models of care based on strong partnerships and integration.

 

As Director Internal Medicine you will be responsible for ensuring multidisciplinary coordination of patient care working collaboratively with relevant Clinical Nurse Managers, Allied Health leads and other key stakeholders. You will actively be involved in the monitoring, recruitment and retention of medical staff within the department, undertaking annual performance reviews and ensuring new medical staff especially junior medical staff are always appropriately supported and supervised. You will lead a culture of continuous quality improvement, research activities and lifelong learning aligned to the Hospital Teaching, Training and Research hub.  

 

 

 

The Director Internal Medicine is responsible for:

 

  • Working in collaboration with senior colleagues across disciplines to provide clinical leadership, governance and day to day clinical and operational management and accountability at the Hospital.
  • Ensuring personalised, safe, effective and timely patient care for patients of the Specialty.
  • Leading initiatives to improve the quality of patient care in line with hospital wide priorities and to minimise adverse events and mitigate clinical risks.
  • Motivating and mentoring all levels of the clinical team especially medical staff and ensuring junior medical staff are always appropriately supervised. 
  • Championing a departmental culture that personifies WACHS core values of community, compassion, quality, intergrity and equity.
  • Facilitating multidisciplinary coordination of patient care and promoting education and research.
  • Supporting the Medical and Service Co-Directors for the Speciality to meet the Hospital’s strategic initiatives.

 

 

 

 

Selection criteria includes but is not limited to:

 

Essential

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
  • Demonstrated substantial clinical experience in managing patients in a complex hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership and facilitate effective patient centred multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement sustainable change to improve patient safety and reduce unnecessary delays in patient management.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to clinical teaching and clinical research.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with an ability to liaise effectively with patients, individuals and the multidisciplinary team.


Desirable


Post Fellowship clinical, education, research, quality or management training and an bility to manage financial, physical and human resources within policy and budgetary expectations.
