Director of Medical Services - Western Australia

 

Package: Up to $587k plus additional allowance.

Location: Kalgoorlie, WA.

Job: Director of Medical Services.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for a medical administration professional with an interest in regional and rural healthcare. As Director of Medical Services, you will take ownership of healthcare operations, clinical governance strategy, and associated activities. You will lead the WACHS Goldfields medical workforce and education teams, liaising with counterparts in head office, multidisciplinary teams (MDT), and community hubs.

 

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will collaborate with the RDMS and EDMS on governance and clinical improvement strategies and initiatives. You will also work alongside the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Chief Imaging Technologist, Chief Pharmacist, and Manager of Allied Health to drive improvements in patient care and continuous quality improvement across service delivery.

 

The Medical Heads of Department, Director of Clinical Training, and Consultants report directly to you.

Essential selection criteria

  • Medical registration

  • Recognised clinical experience and relevant postgraduate qualifications

  • Proven experience in a senior management role within a hospital setting

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels

  • Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to plan, lead, and deliver service improvements

  • Experience driving continuous quality improvement, including leading change and embedding effective clinical governance frameworks

  • Demonstrated interest in regional and rural healthcare

  • Sound understanding of key legislative requirements and their impact on workforce and service delivery

  • Eligibility for, or possession of, a current C or C-A class driver’s licence

 

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in health administration (e.g. FRACMA, FAFPHM, MBA, MHA), or be working towards these

  • Experience working with private Visiting Medical Practitioners (VMPs) and engaging with government and non-government stakeholders

  • Recent leadership experience within a rural or regional health service
