Package breakdown highlights

 

 

  • Total package of up to $611k
  • $31k pa CPD allowance (paid w. salary).
  • 3 month salary retention bonus after 3yrs service then per annum bonus. 

 


As the largest hospital in the region, Broome Hospital offers a diverse and challenging case mix. With 25k presentations to the ED, you’ll be exposed to a wide range of acuity levels and conditions. The theatre complex consists of a Day Procedure Unit and 2 theatres. CT scanning and ultrasonography diagnostic imaging services are available on site, along with a busy pathology laboratory. Anaesthetic services are provided by GP anaesthetists covering the HDU, the Maternity Unit and ED Critical Care.

 

 

Here, you’ll have a unique chance to make a difference in Indigenous Health. With a significant Aboriginal population, you can contribute to improving the healthcare outcomes for Indigenous communities in the region. 

 

 

Collaboration is an essential aspect of our regional surgical team. You will work closely with another full time and a part time Consultant Surgeon in Broome, in addition to a part time Consultant Surgeon based in Kununurra. The Junior team consists of a Service Registrar, Resident Medical Officer, and Intern. This teaching position allows you to mentor and guide doctors in training, sharing your expertise and knowledge. Broome Hospital is highly valued by the Postgraduate Medical Council of WA for the case mix exposure and experience gained by Doctors in Training in their surgical term.  

You’ll be required to undertake short periods of outreach within the region on a regular basis, providing essential surgical services to remote areas (as well as on-call roster).

Selection criteria

 

  • FRACS OR equivalent (UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, NZ trained, for example).
  • Laparoscopic skills and Gastrointestinal endoscopy competency: colonoscopy and gastroscopy.
  • Must hold Fluoroscopy Licence as recognised by the Radiological Council of Western Australia or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated understanding of indigenous health issues.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal, teamwork, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and research.
  • Demonstrated effective and efficient use of available resources to align with corporate governance principles and demonstrated commitment to clinical governance principles and Quality and Safety.
  • Current Drivers Licence and willingness to undertake regular travel including overnight stays.

 

Desirable experiences in

  • post and undergraduate teaching.
  • working in a cross-cultural environment.
  • in basic Orthopaedics.
