Rockhampton Hospital is a 305-bed tertiary referral hospital serving Central Queensland. It provides a comprehensive range of specialist services, including Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery and Geriatrics, and works closely with the University of Queensland and Central Queensland University in delivering medical education and training programs.

 

 

An opportunity is available for a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist to join a high-performing multidisciplinary cardiology unit delivering evidence-based care across the Coronary Care Unit, Cardiology Ward, Outpatient Clinics and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory. The role includes participation in on-call and weekend rosters, outpatient services, procedural work, multidisciplinary meetings and outreach services, while also contributing to education, supervision and research within the department.

 

 

The department provides comprehensive cardiac services including Echocardiography, Stress Imaging, Cardiac CT, Heart Failure Management, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Chest Pain Assessment. A major unit expansion is currently underway, with a new state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and expanded Cardiac Investigation Unit scheduled to open in 2026, increasing inpatient and procedural capacity.

Selection Criteria

  • FRACP or equivalent overseas qualification (e.g. CCT or CSCST).
  • Overseas trained applicants assessed by RACP as substantially comparable are highly regarded.
  • Subspecialty training in Interventional Cardiology.
  • Evidence of participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Evidence of current PCI volumes in line with CSANZ competency requirements.
  • Participation in primary PCI rosters and case volumes as per CSANZ guidelines.
  • Demonstrated clinical and academic research experience.
  • Experience working in a non-cardiothoracic surgical centre is highly desirable.
  • Qualification in Cardiac CT and/or Cardiac MRI highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
