Rockhampton Hospital is a 305-bed facility and is the main referral hospital for the major health service servicing the region.

Specialist Medical Services include Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Cardiology, Renal Medicine, Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Geriatric Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Intensive Care and Anaesthesia. 

 

 

Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine provides Internal medicine services for the hospital, broader service and other health hubs in the region. The Department of Medicine has an allocation of 32 medical beds, 8 “48 hour” beds, 5 coronary care beds, 9 palliative care beds (including chemotherapy) and outpatient clinics each week.

 

Nephrology

The Department of Nephrology provides comprehensive renal services. These include renal transplant (except acute transplant), acute and chronic kidney diseases, Dialysis (both haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis), Satellite dialysis units, Tele-health and in-patient and outpatient renal services. The team consists of 3 Nephrologists, 1 Advanced Trainee, 1 Basic Physician Trainee and 1 RMO.  The CME programs include weekly renal topic teaching and monthly histo-pathology meeting with a Brisbane hospital. Within General Medicine there is specific expertise in Diabetes and Respiratory Medicine. The Department of Medicine provides exposure to a broad range of medicine.

 

 

Job scope

 

  • Assist the Director of Medicine, with the organisation, management andprovision of Specialist Renal Services.
  • Provide leadership to collegues within the department and contribute to the multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Manage haemodialysis patients in regional hubs and homes via telehealth and site visits when required.

 


Role highlights

 

Inpatient: supervise inpatients admitted under Renal Services, performing procedures including renal biopsy [Permcath insertion and acute vascular access (Vascath) insertion are preferred procedural skills] as required and provision of clinical input to consultations from the various
disciplines in the hospitals and hubs.

Outpatient: clinical assessment and provision of comprehensive management plans

Selection criteria

 

  • FRACPs or trained overseas in either NZ, UK, Ireland, South Africa, USA or Canada. 
  • Clinical experience and skills in nephrology, for a wide range of procedures.
  • Understanding and commitment to principles of continuous improvement and review. 
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Developed leadership skills and experience in contributing as a team member in a multidisciplinary
  • approach to service provision.
  • First class verbal and written communication skills.
  • A commitment to continuing professional education.
