Senior Medical Practitioner - Emergency Medicine.


The SMP in Emergency Medicine is a medical practitioner who does not have recognised specialist qualification (or whose specialist qualification has not yet been assessed by ACEM). They must have at least 12 years experience and who can practice without supervision exclusively in a specialist area and/or who clinically supervises other doctors; and/or who has significant medical administration duties.

 

The ED in Geraldton sees 40k presentations per annum - a broad mix which includes high acuity and trauma presentations as well as dealing with transfers from other hospitals in the region.  The service has a really active SMO education program and can support candidates who are working on the ACEM Emergency Medicine Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivery patient care.
  • Providing clinical leadership in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate patient transfers and retrievals.
  • Supervise doctors in training in consultation with Specialists and the Director of Emergency Medicine
  • Promote high quality care and patient safety initiatives.

 

Selection criteria:

 

  • You will have postgraduate medical experience in general medical, emergency medicine and hospital practice.
  • Have a commitment to CME.
  • First class verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills in a MDT environment.
  • Experience in risk management and quality improvement.
  • Applicants with previous experience in rural and regional medicine will be highly regarded.
