Senior Medical Practioner (SMP) jobs are an excellent pathway for consultants in emergency medicine to secure a job quickly and relatively effortlessly by avoiding ACEM medical college assessment. For example, you may want to avoid the costs of effort of doing this or just want to arrive in Australia faster. You can always complete ACEM assessment while you are in this role and utilise resources on the ground, for example. SMP means you are a senior medical staff and will have similar responsibilities to a consultant, including the following areas:

 

  • clinical
  • administration
  • teaching

 

Salary would be up to $350k (inc. CME allowance) plus additional allowances eg. weekend, shift work and public holiday penalties (120%-250%). Other benefits include:

Selection criteria:

 

  • Possess substantial postgraduate medical experience in emergency medicine and hospital practice.
  • Commitment to CME.
  • First class interpersonal skills
  •  High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership skills to lead in a MDT environment.
  • Commitment to the effective management of clinical risk and improving quality.

 

Applicants will be highly regarded if they, along with the above:

 

  • can demonstrate experience or qualifications in other specialist or procedural fields.
  • have experience in rural or remote medicine.
  • experience in working in trans-cultural settings.
  • have an understanding of family medicine, primary health care and preventative health care.
