Mackay is a modern Queensland coastal city. The health service employs 2700 people, has 6 hospitals. The major hospital is a teaching hospital and state of the art contemporary facility. The ED department is a fun, friendly & welcoming unit. You’ll have fun working hard here as well as exploring the beautiful coastal region - whether walking in the rainforest hinterland or snorkelling, diving, sailing along the coast or out on the reef. 

 

The ED has 2 resus bays, 3 high dependency bays, 20 consult rooms, a short stay unit and a rapid track zone with 3 consultation rooms.

If you’re a UK doctor this job is pitched perfectly between a SHO and Junior Registrar grade post. So suited to post-grad year 4 and beyond making it an ideal 12 month post as you develop your career in EM. 

 

 

Job highlights

 

  • Provide medical care under the supervision and direction of senior medical staff.
  • Document relevant clinical information and in-patient charts accurately. 
  • Ensure discharge summaries and other correspondence are completed with minimum delay and that all such
  • correspondence is complete prior to leaving the unit.
  • Conduct interviews, examinations and the identification of clinical problems including day-to-day review of patients.
  • Arrange investigations, surgical treatment, medical treatment and discharge as directed by the assigned consultant.
  • Provide assistance with surgical procedures and outpatient clinics as directed by assigned Consultant on duty.
  • Provide support for colleagues.
  • Assist with case presentations at teaching meetings where necessary.
  • Participate in clinical meetings undertaken within the appropriate clinical unit.
  • Participate in after-hours shift roster as required.
  • Participate in continual professional development and medical education.

 

Selection criteria

 

  • Vaccine requirements - including Covid & Hep B.
  • At least 3yrs post-graduate experience. 
  • 9-12months experience in emergency medicine. 
  • Willingness to work shifts.
