Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service delivers healthcare across the Fraser Coast, Bundaberg and surrounding rural communities, supporting a population of more than 225,000 people. An opportunity is available for a Staff Specialist/Consultant in endocrinology and general medicine.

 

 

This is an excellent opportunity to deliver high-quality care within a collaborative regional health service, offering professional autonomy, varied clinical experience, and strong multidisciplinary support.

 

 

Your Role

  • Provide high-quality specialist Endocrinology and Diabetes services across the Fraser Coast, predominantly based at Hervey Bay and Maryborough Hospitals.
  • Provide clinical management of patients with endocrine conditions, while also contributing to General Medicine and participating in the General Medicine on-call roster.
  • Provide specialist consultation and liaison support to inpatient medical teams and other clinical disciplines managing patients with endocrine conditions.
  • Manage outpatient Endocrinology clinics as well as follow-up of General Medicine patients following hospital discharge.
  • Develop a subspecialty area of interest where appropriate, with opportunities across diabetes, pituitary and hypothalamic disorders, growth and sex hormone disorders, bone health, metabolic disorders and thyroid/parathyroid disease.
  • Supervise, assess and teach junior medical staff, including doctors undertaking the Australian Medical Council Workplace Based Assessment program.
  • Contribute to clinical leadership, patient safety, quality improvement, clinical governance and service development.
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, academic medicine and relevant research activities.

 

 

Remuneration package highlights

  • Total remuneration package of up to $548k per year, depending on experience and classification. This will increase to up to $571k from July 2027. The package includes:
  • Motor Vehicle allowance $23-$28k depending on salary band - paid.
  • 3.6 weeks professional development leave. 
  • $22k professional development allowance - paid.
  • Very generous salary sacrifice arrangements
  • Employer paid tax free pension contributions - 12.75%
  • Opportunity to undertake private practice at St Stephens Private Hospital in Hervey Bay, allowing you to complement your public hospital role with private work.

Selection Criteria 

  • FRACP or assessed by RACP as substantially comparable or eligible for the accelerated pathway.
  • Experience in endocrinology and diabetes and commitment to participate in the general medcine on - call roster.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, clinical governance and service development.
  • Positive attitude towards teaching, supervision and training of junior medical staff.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, interpersonal, conflict management and negotiation skills.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary healthcare and patient-centred care.
  • Current driver’s licence.
