  • Package of up to $530k plus oncall allowances. Includes base salary, PPA, car and CPD allowances and superannuation.

 

Package includes managerial allowance, $22k CPD allowance, and up to $28k car allowance and private practice allowances.

 

This comprehensive mental health service is seeking an experienced Inpatient Psychiatrist to join their acute mental health inpatient units based across 2 locations This is a pivotal leadership role within the mhs, providing clinical specialist adult psychiatry support across the inpatient service.

 

Here, you'll will make a substantial contribution to developing a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient-centred clinical practice. As a senior member of the service, you'll lead acute psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment planning for patients requiring hospital admission, working closely with really talented and passionate multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth transitions back into community care.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide consultant-level psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients admitted to acute inpatient mental health units.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary inpatient care, ensuring timely and effective treatment for complex and high-risk presentations.
  • Drive a culture of medical education, supervising and mentoring registrars, PHOs, and junior medical staff.
  • Champion safe, patient-centred clinical practice, with a strong focus on recovery-oriented care and risk management.
  • Collaborate with community mental health teams, GPs, and allied/primary care health professionals to ensure seamless care transitions and continuity (along with other stakeholders).
  • Contribute to QA, clinical governance, and risk management activities, including regular audit.
  • Participate in medical education initiatives and ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in after-hours and on-call roster.

 

Location

You'll be primarily located at 2 units, with the occasional opportunity to work across other sites as needs arise. Selection Criteria

 

  • Holds Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent specialist qualification.
  • Has demonstrated experience in inpatient acute adult psychiatry, including management of complex and high-risk presentations.
  • Brings strong leadership and supervision skills, with a commitment to developing junior medical staff.
  • Is passionate about patient-centred, recovery-oriented care and continuous quality improvement.
  • Communicates effectively with multidisciplinary teams, consumers, families, and external stakeholders.
  • International applicants: We welcome expressions of interest from UK-trained psychiatrists and other internationally qualified specialists. Our team can advise on RANZCP comparability assessments, expedited pathways, and AHPRA registration.

 

For those trained outside of Australia, a RANZCP Comparability Assessment or ESP registration are required. Don't worry! We can walk you through what these mean and offer friendly and expert advice along the way.
