The location for this job is Bunbury, which is 2hrs from Perth CBD, and 1hr from Perth's southern suburbs and Mandurah. The city has a population of 80k with an excellent private school. The coastline is sensational and the lush agricultural regions of the Margaret River are close by.
The Mental Health Service provides a range of specialist community, in-patient and call centre based mental health services for people living in the South West region of Western Australia. It currently delivers an array of Programs inclusive (but not limited to) the following:
- Acute Psychiatric inpatient unit with:
- 23 low dependency beds
- 7 high dependency beds
- Regional Consultation Liaison service based in Bunbury hospital
- Community Mental Health Clinics located in Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Bridgetown, Manjimup.
- Infant, Child and Adolescent (0-16)
- Youth (16-18)
- Adult (18-65)
- Older Adult (65+)
- Step-up Step-down Unit in Partnership with Richmond Wellbeing
- Youth Severe Services, in partnership with WA Primary Health Alliance
- Community Assessment and Support Team (CAST)
- Mental Health Co-Response team in partnership with the WA Police (WAPOL)
- Specialised Aboriginal Mental Health Services
- Alcohol and Drug support services
- Western Australia Eating Disorder consultation service
The service covers the full South West region, with an acute inpatient unit (23 low dependency beds, 7 high dependency), a consultation liaison service based at Bunbury Hospital, and community mental health clinics across Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Bridgetown and Manjimup — spanning infant/child, youth, adult and older adult streams. There is a step-up step-down unit run in stakeholder services partnership with WA Primary Health Alliance, a co-response team working alongside WA Police, specialised Aboriginal mental health services, and a WA eating disorder consultation service.
The Inpatient post sits within the acute unit, working closely with the multidisciplinary team on admission, treatment and discharge planning for low and high dependency patients. The Community post covers one of the adult clinics across the South West catchment, with scope to get involved in CAST, co-response, or the step-up step-down partnership depending on interest.

Selection criteria includes but is not limited to:
- FRANZCP or equivalent. Applicants eligible for the RANZCP accelerated pathway or ESP will be considered favourably.
- Broad experience in general adult psychiatry.
- Ability to provide leadership in a MDT.
- Strong stakeholder management skills - ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.
- An understanding of recovery orientated and patient centred care.
- Willingness to teach undergrad & postgrad students.
- Experienced in supervising and mentoring DiTs.
