This comprehensive Queensland is seeking a Youth Psychiatrist to join a specialist youth mental health stream within their service. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people aged 12–25, providing expert psychiatric care across community and inpatient settings.
You will provide clinical specialist psychiatry support to the mhs, making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient-centred clinical practice. Working within a multidisciplinary youth mental health team, you will deliver evidence-based, recovery-oriented care to adolescents and young adults with complex mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-level psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for young people (12–25 years) within youth mental health services.
- Lead multidisciplinary care coordination, working closely with youth-specific community teams, inpatient units, NGOs and other external agencies and stakeholders.
- Drive a culture of medical education, supervising and mentoring registrars, PHOs, and junior medical staff.
- Champion safe, patient-centred clinical practice with a focus on early intervention, recovery, and family-inclusive care.
- Collaborate with schools, GPs, allied/primary health, and community organisations to support young people across their care continuum.
- Contribute to quality assurance, clinical governance, and risk management activities, including regular audit.
- Participate in medical education initiatives and ongoing professional development.
- Share in the after-hours and on-call roster.
Location
You'll be primarily located at 2 units, with the occasional opportunity to work across other sites as needs arise. Selection Criteria
- Holds Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent specialist qualification.
- Has demonstrated experience in youth or adolescent psychiatry, including management of complex mental health presentations in young people.
- Strong leadership and supervision skills, with a commitment to developing junior medical staff.
- Passionate about early intervention, recovery-oriented care, and family-inclusive practice.
- Ability to communicate effectively with young people, carers, families, multidisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders.
- International applicants: We welcome expressions of interest from UK-trained psychiatrists and other internationally qualified specialists. Our team can advise on RANZCP comparability assessments, expedited pathways, and AHPRA registration.
