We are working with the GCHHS and are looking for a consultant psychiatrist to take up a permanent post and lead its adult and older person inpatient mental health service for three years, with the option of a further two years of the combined elements. We recrutied the previous incumbent of this post who has now moved on to a more senior job.
The Gold Coast is a coastal city in south-east Queensland with beaches, hinterland, several universities and a sensational family-friendly lifestyle. The inpatient mental health service has over 180 beds across th Univeresity Hospital in two locations. It cares for adults and older people with severe mood disorders, psychosis, behavioural and psychological symptoms of cognitive impairment, and other complex presentations. Psychiatry, nursing and allied health all work closely together, with le good reliablinks into community mental health services for ongoing care and discharge planning.
Job
This important post combines clinical work with medical leadership. The clinical component is 0.4 FTE and the rest is obviously directed to the leadership components.
As Medical Director, you will:
- Manage the md care team day to day and give direct clinical care, including relief cover when needed.
- Provide professional leadership across the department, and supervise and teach registrars, junior doctors, medical students and other clinicians.
- Work in partnership with Service Directors to lead clinical governance and oversee the operational and financial running of the service.
- Review models of care, develop the service strategy, and support research and quality improvement.
- Carry out regular performance appraisal for the consultants in the team and make sure they are credentialed.
- Report to the Clinical Director of Mental Health and Specialist Services, and professionally to the CMO.
- Help ensure the service ensures compliance with Queensland's Mental Health Act.
- Participate in the after-hours on-call roster.
The role sits within a leadership model where clinical and ops leaders work as partners.
This job would be a good fit for a psychiatrist who has supervised and taught, but is now ready to step into service leadership with an established team around them.
You will
- be a FRANZCP or UK CCT or already assessed by RANZCP for the SCP.
- Strong clinical and teaching experience in psychiatry.
- Substantial experience in GAP and/or Older Age psychiatry.
- A collaborative approach to management and leadership.
- First class personable and communication skills.
